What I will say though is that fans absolutely lambasted JNT for casting the likes of Bonnie Langford, Ken Dodd, H&P and other entertainer and performers. When RTD does the exact same thing it's a stroke of genius.

All the people cheering him on now, will all be saying what a bad idea it was and should never have happened. At least JNT got them to do intreasting roles. I don't see that happening now.

It's like Sooz Kempner, why did people get so pissed at that? Because it's an easy and uncontroversial target; in an age of fandom where criticism of almost any creative decision will be taken as a literal personal attack by the opposing "side", I suppose it was refreshing to have something that everyone unanimously agreed was horseshit.

What I will say though is that fans absolutely lambasted JNT for casting the likes of Bonnie Langford, Ken Dodd, H&P and other entertainer and performers. When RTD does the exact same thing it's a stroke of genius. It's always been that way. The bottom line is middle aged fans couldn't bare to see their fave show get the piss taken out of it on shitty panel shows and by hack journalists in the 90s. Now fair enough DW got awful treatment from the media, but still rather than properly analyse why that was and hold c*nts like Michael Grade responsible, the fandom elite's insecurities led them to believe that it must have just been because DW was completely shit in the 80s . JNT became a useful scapegoat as a result of this. As a result of this the praise for the RTD era was full of rank hypocrisies such as. JNT brings back big villains like the Master and the Cybermen too often, he destroys their menace, and he also brings back minor villains who should never have been brought back like the Silurians showing how unoriginal he is. RTD brings back Daleks, Cybermen and the Master more times, and minor foes like the Macra, he's a genius. JNT casts popular actors and entertainers in proper roles, like Nicholas Parsons, he's a shallow attention whore. RTD does it, and has them play themselves and dates the show with the likes of Trinny and Suzannah, he's just doing what he has to do to keep the show on the air, stop judging him. JNT went through his Doctors too quickly, RTD and the Fitzroy Crowd have gone through 5 Doctors in 7 years. JNT was a difficult man and a tyrant on set whose egomania destroyed the show because he wouldn't listen to those around him. RTD drove one of his Doctors to quit after a year (in contrast all of JNT's Doctors wanted to stay on longer than they did.) He also boasts about how contrary opinions don't get a look in, dismisses his fans as ming mongs, and creates such a cliquey atmosphere that flashing can go on. It's sheer hypocrisy.

If they do something clever and subversive with it, a la Divine in "Pink Flamingos", that'd be cool. But they won't. It'll be boring and trite.
