He criticised a conservative/right-wing aspect of governance. That's all that matters. So has everyone I mentioned in my prior post. They went a step further than Lineker. They've either criticised Israel's imperialistic occupation of Palestine or drawn attention to the government's (and indeed the opposition's) cruel treatment of benefit claimants and disabled people. Therefore, they became pariahs, often regarded in mainstream UK media as antisemites, "trots", "dogs", or "cranks". If the left control everything (including billionaire-owned journalistic outlets and governments predicated on neoliberalism for decades), why aren't any of these so-called authoritarians "in power" instead of isolated and demonised by the UK's supposedly 'left' opposition party? Not that left- and right-wing really mean anything anyway; in fact, historically they never did either: it was always a shorthand way to deride and satirise politicians using an analogue of a system present during the French Revolution (king's supporters in the right wing of the chamber; revolutionary supporters in the left wing of the chamber). Quite. However, everyone in this thread (and indeed this forum), including your original post I quoted (which explicitly pits right against left), has used these terms. Regardless of their historical (and indeed spatially misleading) shortcomings, we've got no better terms yet. However, if these terms mean nothing and refer to nothing, one should conclude that the left do not have hegemonic power over the right, as advocating this narrative plays into the idea that 'left' and 'right' do mean something. |

Well Hitler was nearly that left-wing himself, so this assessment is technically correct. Hitler was a fascist. He's as far right as you can get. Read Mein Kampf and Das Kapital and compare. Quite. The most alarming thing about the whole Immigration Bill/Gary Lineker furore, regardless of one's views on it, is the attempt by some in the supposedly mainstream media to rewrite perhaps the most awful event in history. I just blocked someone on Twitter who's fallen down this rabbit hole this morning! I'm no fan of Starmer, but if old Adolf's now being recast as a 'lefty lawyer' too then I fear where Sunak's Government is heading... |

I genuinely don't get the love for Osgood. In Day of the Doctor, she was a mildly entertaining fangirl. In the Zygon episodes, she was downright unbearable with her "just Osgood" shtick. Just talk and act like a normal person ffs.
Edit: Also, the Doctor is a real person in-universe, so her cosplaying as him is a bit creepy.

Not that you're not right, but the attempts to rewrite Adolf Hitler as a leftist have been going on for years. That's all guys like Sargon of Akkad and PJW went on about at one point "Hitler was a socialist, Hitler was sympathetic to Marxists." The smugness that went along with Sargon talking about such an obvious bullshit point actually made me want to put my foot through the tv. Even worse than that though are some people so hyped up on Russophobia that they actually say that Stalin was worse than Hitler. The myth of how many people communism killed, 150 million has played a big part in that. Funny thing is that figure comes from the black book of communism, which was co-written by a Nazi who used the most ridiculous methods to get to 150 million killed by communism, and who openly admitted that he wanted to make Nazism seem more sympathetic by contrasting it with communism. Yet this is the source that gits like Sargon smugly use to try and demonise communism and by extension socialism, all the while sneering at anyone who calls them a Nazi or far right. Maybe don't constantly use Nazi propaganda Sargon and you might not get that label. There are even sadly attempts to say that Churchill was worse than Hitler. Now don't get me wrong I know that Churchill was a bastard who has been given far too rosey a portrayal in media over the years. Still to say he was worse than Hitler is a disgrace, but at one of my old jobs I got into an argument with some guy for saying that, and I was actually pulled into the office and told that I was deeply upsetting people by downplaying Churchill's racist crimes. Even though I didn't. I simply said he wasn't as dangerous as Hitler! |

Anyway everybody is kind of dogpiling on the Yak Emperor, I didn't want to chime in. I mean I know no one is being horrible to him, so it's not like GB, but still given my experiences I am not comfortable with it, so I just left it to everybody else to argue with him. I actually fell out with a guy over this. He ran a blog called Disney Star Wars is Dumb, and he wrote a huge article arguing that Hitler was a socialist. We had an ugly argument in the comments where he accused me of just being too stupid and lazy to read his points. |
