Ok so I came across some Jodie final clips online and it made me realise just how much NuWho wants you to think that travelling with the Doctor is more a curse then a blessing.
The scene were aload of former companions come together in a group therapy session, as if they are so scared by what happened just really bugs me and it even clashes with the scenes of old companions and Doctors getting to met.
But it's not just that scene. Even from the very first season there's been this attempt to make the Doctor this darker figure, thats not to say he was angelic but you got the sense he out adventuring and helping. Not all his companions got happy endings, but many left on good terms, to peruse the next chapter of their lives. Hell I'll even quote McCoy in Power. "All children leave home sooner or later. The joy is to watch them fly." Yet even when Sarah Jane first appeared, nuwho would have you believe that these people were more hurt by the experience. None of the new companions ever get a true happy ending, yes the show won't let them die, but it will insure their lives are irrevocably altered for ever, while the old ones just spend their days dwelling on those times and being bitter.
It's not like I'm against the idea on principle, but to make them all so miserable in the end seems very disingenuous. I can only wonder if it's the show runners inner bitterness at ever being fans bleeding through or are they saying being a Doctor Who fan is, in reality, bad for us?

I think they're just morons who don't think these things through.

Realistically, meeting the Doctor would dramatically shift your entire worldview and perspective of self. I don't doubt that a lot of them were left feeling pretty all over the place, even if they departed on good terms. It just helps to have people around who can understand you and let you vent.

I thought the meetup group was lamer than L.I.N.D.A.
Totally felt like something only a fan would think to write into the show.

I thought the meetup group was lamer than L.I.N.D.A. Speaking of LINDA, I was always confused by how the Fifth Doctor knew of them (in "Time Crash"). I'm surprised Big Finish hasn't followed up on that.

I'm surprised Big Finish hasn't followed up on that. It would have been a good edition of the Classic Doctors, New Monsters series they had going on. Because honestly, who's a scarier monster than L.I.N.D.A. lol. I actually kind of enjoy Love and Monsters, truth be told. And the sight of a green Peter Kay in a black thong was legitimately creepy to me when I first saw it as a youngster.
