Camp Cretaceous

Anybody watch this show? It's amazing. I'd say it's better than any JP or JW movie except for the first two. (And this is from someone who really, REALLY likes the first two JW movies, and even enjoys JP 3 and JW Dominion as B-movies.) 

I'd seen clips of the cool Dino fights before and knew what it was about, but thankfully Netflix have the full thing and I've been watching as much as I ca of it. Really cannot recommend it enough. It's chase scenes are as intense as anything in the movies, it doesn't skimp around having people be eaten, and to be honest it has a greater variety of Dinosaurs than the movies. It still has the favourites like Tyrannosaurus (who is used a lot better than in the last trilogy.) However other more obscure creatures like the Carnotaurus and the Baryonx are used brilliantly. The characters are also all very well developed too and the performances are great. As I mentioned in a previous thread, it features some beloved genre queens like Jameela Jamil and Stephanie Beatriz, both of whom play very different types of characters than what you'd expect.

I think my fave character is surprise, surprise Sammy. She is the Ducky of the group. Haha she is sooooo the type of sweet girl that goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. We need more Sammy's in the world. (Though even then SPOILERS she has quite a dark secret in the first series which was a great twist, but not one that made you dislike her.)

I have and it was a real treat as a JP fan.

I was not shore what to make it at first but it turned out to be a surprisingly good series, with a likeable and developed caste, better plots then shows like this would normally get and the dinosaurs are amazing.

Just finished it all.

Overall I honestly can't say anything bad about it? It was perfect in every way for what it was supposed to be. Sammy is still my absolute fave. God damn would it be awesome to have her as a friend. I like that she and Yaz got together at the end too. I've noticed people in tv shows tend to pair the Ducky's up with the most awkward character as it's always the ducky that makes them come out of their shell haha. I'd say that Doctor Mae is my next fave after Sammy, followed by Yaz, but they were all likable.

I noticed quite a lot of similarities between season 5's plot and that of Terror of Mechagodzilla. I've always said that the Godzilla movies were a big inspiration on the Jurassic World film series and that basically JP turned the T-Rex into its version of Godzilla. 

Look at it this way. 

Both the JP T-Rex and Godzilla started out as the main villains of their respective franchises. Both were a similar kind of idea. A monster created by man meddling in nature and abusing technology. Both are nature pushing back and saying "actually I can still f*ck you if you try to mess with me." And fittingly nature's way of revenge in both cases is to take on the form of a dinosaur, a species that had similarly believed itself to be dominant, before nature extinguished it overnight. 

Both however started to take on a more sympathetic role because little kids love Dinosaurs and love T-Rex, so duh, why not give them one they can root for. 

Both also later became friends/allies with the first dinosaur they fought, Anguirus/Velociraptor. 

Both live on an island inhabited by monsters/dinosaurs where they are the ruler, Isla Nublar, Monsterland.

Both rule over a cabal of Dinosaurs/monsters, big eatie is the leader of a pack of dinos that includes Velociraptors, Sino/spino hybrids, Kentrosaurus, Godzilla is a ruler over other monsters like Gorosaurus, Anguirus etc.

The fights with the JP T-Rex are very similar to Godzilla's fight with other big dinosaurs like the Indominus and the Giga. IE in both cases Godzilla/T-Rex team up with another Dinosaur/monster to fight it, in both cases they smash their opponent through buildings. The Indominus fight is very similar to the fight with King Ghidorah, in that in both cases we have several monsters all gang up on one and absolutely paste it. Honestly I love the endings of both fights for that very reason. They are almost like lynchings LOL. So brutal and merciless.







Finally the last season of Camp Cretaceous is like Terror of Mechagodzilla in that. 

We have a group of really, REALLY hateful villains who are trying to mind control dinosaurs, and also utilise killer robots. (One of whom even looks like Mechagodzilla.) 






In both cases the main dinosaur the bad guys mind control meanwhile is a Spinosaurus (of sorts) 






In both cases one of the main bad guys is the father of one of the heroes and briefly uses that relationship to make them betray everybody else. However the good guy whose father is with the baddies is also the love interest of the main hero and is thus torn, with the love interest winning out in the end. 

Finally the hero Dinosaur that stands against and fights the mind controlled Dinosaur is a Tyrannosaurus. Also in both cases after the poor Spinosaurus is freed from the mind control, the Tyrannosaurus still attacks it because it doesn't know any better LOL. At least the Spino in Jurassic World managed to escape at the end, but still you can see how it's similar. 





BTW Steven Spielberg is a huge fan of Godzilla and the scene in the Lost World of the T-Rex rampage was an homage to the old Godzilla movies, so I can believe a lot of these similarities and homages are intentional.
