The third Beatles movie. It is is honestly one of the best films ever made. It's not like the others in that it's a fantasy film. Basically these horrifying, but idiotic LOL monsters called the blue meanies take over Pepperland, a fantasy world akin to Narnia, and one of their number flees in a Yellow submarine to fetch the Beatles for help. (As the Blue Meanies hate music.)
The Yellow sub then takes them through many strange oceans including one full of monsters, a nowhere world etc. It's completely insane and I remember loving and being a little scared of some parts of it as a child. (Like when those blue meanies drop the apples on the guy who turns to stone. That freaked 4 year old me out.)
My favourite part of the movie though is the leader of the Blue Meanies who is one of the best animated villains of all time. Did you know that both his design and his voice were the main inspiration on Mark Hamill and the animators and writers on the Joker in Batman the Animated Series.
I think Yellow Submarine is a movie you can enjoy even if you're not a big Beatles fan as it's just so crazy, imaginative and off the wall. It's really a modern day fairytale and one of the best bits of imaginative, surrealist fiction I've ever seen.
