Pretty poor list. The Christmas Invasion may not be the worst, but it's by far the most boring. The best, or least worst, is probably The Next Doctor. It didn't bug me as much as the rest.

They're all broadly awful, but I'd also opt for The Next Doctor. Morrissey is quite good as the faux-Doctor (more convincing than Tennant, truth be told) and the central premise behind his character is interesting in isolation. Despite a disappointing latter half (why do Cybermen need children as slave labour when they don't get tired?), I definitely find more merit in it than the other RTD Christmas specials. Voyage of the Damned is my least favourite. Utter, utter shite on every conceivable level. Celebratory of vacuous celebrity culture (and people accuse JNT of stunt-casting), laden with caricatures (as with Partners, it assumes that fat people are endemically greedy and exploits this media-infused perception for laughs) and embracive of materialism (interesting how Clive Swift's character achieves peace of mind after being showered with shit loads of money). At its heart, it's a story that taps into the worst cultural facets of the period and offers nothing beyond that. Regardless of the nods to Robots of Death, it's one of my least favourite RTD stories and amongst my least favourites of all time. It also features a staggeringly awful scene with a poor Queen Elizabeth take-off- "Thank you Doctor! Happy Christmas!". I personally can't abide the Royals, but I'd be bloody embarrassed by that if I were her. |

I adore the End of Time, but I don't really see it as a Christmas special. So I'll go with The Next Doctor, because Morrissey is awesome. He's better than half the real ones.
