Apparently the most recent batch of filming is confirming that this special is an adaptation of the comic strip story "Star Beast" with Beep The Meep. The 60th anniversary? Surely not. Mind you when you look at some of the villains Chibnall created, Beep the Meep doesn't seem so bad.

So Fathead's grand vision for revitalising the series is an inferior rehash of a 43 year old story starring a has-been Doctor who wasn't even in the original? The "aLl AbOuT chAnGe" brigade's silence is deafening.
And yes, of course it's going to be inferior because Tom Baker himself already did a stellar job of adapting this for Big Finish. Replacing Tom with Teninch, throwing in a ton of EastEnders melodrama, gender identity politics, and undoing Donna's exit Moffat-style because God forbid a horror show should have anything other than fairytale happy endings 100% of the time... I've lost track of where I was, but NuWho is terrible and the clique of old farts behind it are a bunch of creatively bankrupt hacks.

You know I thought that Zarius might have just been having us on, but look at this article. It has pictures of this veep character. www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/filming-on-the-60th-anniversary-reveals-some-very-surprising-monsters-unit-97422.htmI can only assume it's just a cameo, but Jesus Christ. Is that really the best thing to bring back when the show is trying to renew itself?

Somehow I doubt it will be a straight "adaptation". Personally I laughed my ass off when I heard this, and not in a bad way. I actually find it quite delightfully silly. This is the first thing I've heard that makes me at all interested lol!

Beep the Meep?
*Shrug*
Who? What?
It sounds like a rejected Batman villain.

Wow, a comic strip I have no nostalgia for, matched with a crew I have no nostalgia for. Can't wait to get back to cringing at all that sassy dialogue too.

Somehow I doubt it will be a straight "adaptation". It's obviously not 'straight' one because you have the Donna reunion, the mystery of Tennant, and the other thing adding original elements to it.

Yeah, it's not a straight adaptation because it's RTD.

I don't understand? Why? Why when he has millions of pounds, lots of goodwill, does he choose to adapt a crappy, lame story about a monster that's designed to be silly?
If he wanted to mine spin off material for a new recurring foe, why not go for say Nimrod? The vampire character who was quite cool and creepy?
It really does seem as though the Fitzroy Crowd want to kill it these days? Why?

Bring back Fenric or someone. A proper villain, at least.
It pisses me off because Moffat said that no one would remember the Rani which is presumably why he never brought her back, but then RTD is bringing back creatures from age old comic stories that even hardcore classic fans probably don't know about.

I remember that Star Beast comic strip from back when I was considerably younger (in the late 1970s/early 1980s) and used to enjoy reading the Marvel Doctor Who Weekly magazine featuring Tom Baker's Doctor. I'm surprised "NuPooh" are using this for any kind of inspiration - honestly, it's far too good for RTD & co to ruin - and in any case I believe it's previously been adapted (by 'bigfinish'?) as an audio story as well. As I recall, Star Beast was actually rather good as it boasted some great artwork and was one of several good quality comic strip stories from the weekly (later monthly) magazine. Another comic strip adventure that I fondly remember was the Iron Legion story that involved an alternative Earth conquered by a future Roman Empire aided by some supremely sinister demonic aliens. Cracking stuff. Anyway, I've no faith whatsoever in "NuPooh" doing this kind of thing any justice whatsoever.
