Just out of interest?
Feminism has kind of fallen from being this big untouchable subject in modern popular culture like it was a few years ago thanks to the influence of TERFS and the "a woman has to be born a woman" mob. Nowadays I'd say a lot of people view feminists as a whole as cranks because of that crowd.
There are many different types of feminist however, so I wonder if anyone here identifies as one or anything?
I've gone back and forth with feminism, you may have noticed. I tried to be one back in the early 10s as like anyone I'd noticed a lot of misogyny growing up, but I soon left it when I saw that most, not all, but most modern feminism was either Rick from the Young Ones trivial bullshit, or just plain man hating.
I became a bit of an anti feminist (you may have noticed LOL) circa 2017-19 because of things like the woman's march, the insanity of the worst SJW lunatics and the way it was so protected by the media too. Though again I was NEVER a misogynist, and always supported women's rights. That was another reason I grew to despise feminism because of the way it tried to equate itself with equality of the sexes. You can't do that. No political ideology can effectively copyright being a decent person. That would be like if I invented a new political movement called Burrunjorist, and said "the definition of a Burrunjorist is someone who doesn't like women being sliced in half, so you're a burrunjorist", but then I started to lard on my own political beliefs onto Burrunjorism and when you disagreed with those specifically, I said "you are just a psycho that wants to cut women in half!"
Still now a few years on from the hyper feminist backlash, I must admit that maybe I went too far in some of my critiques of feminists. I still think by and large the modern feminist movement is made up of a lot of poseurs (men and women, in fact as the likes of Joss Whedon show, male feminists are often the worst of all.)
Still I'm not quick to dismiss feminists complaints like I was in 2017. I hate to say but back then I was a bit of a "there is no sexism in western society, what are they talking about?" Which is obviously completely wrong. I don't think it's a patriarchy either however. I think we've clung to some old fashioned ideas and expectations of both genders, both of which emerged when our society was primitive and were based on nature.
Out in the wild it was natural in our species for men to be big macho men, and women to only look after the children. Now I'm not saying that because that's how it was in nature that's how it should be now. After all, we also died at the age of 22 in nature and killed people over slabs of meat. Also I might point out that species do change, and the fact that we can shape the environment around us to our liking means that we have evolved from what we once were too. Really it's in our nature now to live long and choose what we want to be.
Still because it sadly has been so soon since we dropped down from the trees (in the grand scheme of things) I think we cling to old outdated ideas which has led to inequalities to both genders throughout our society, like men being forced to go to war, work in the worst jobs etc, as they are seen as the expendible gender, but women also being seen as weaker, not fit for any role but having babies and so on, as well as both genders being forced to act certain ways. It's important to deal with all of these old fashioned ideas, and counteract them, and not try and make out that they are all in some way designed to benefit one gender, which I feel feminists do with the patriarchy theory. They jump through hoops trying to work out how a system where men go off to fight and die in WW1 is somehow designed to benefit men, rather than just admit. "Yeah both genders have got shit expectations and ideas and we should just tackle them both."
So yeah for this and other reasons I would never call myself a feminist, but like I said I won't dismiss any complaints about institutionalized misogyny and overall I probably listen to as many feminists now about certain things as I do other political groups. I try not to pigeon hole myself into certain groups anymore and just champion what I believe in personally. Also I try not to pigeon hole others into groups and say "oh can't listen to her she is a feminist."
Even when it comes to DW I don't think feminism is solely to blame anymore LOL. Don't get me wrong, the feminists DID put pressure on Moffat and led to things like Missy and Jodie. However I think that the real cause of it was the whole DW is all about change crap, and DW has no canon. We'd probably have always got a female Doctor thanks to the feminist crap, and I always would have been against it and thought it was rubbish, but the Timeless Children and even just casting an actress as tragically wrong for the part as Jodie, all came about because of the stupid ideas of "the Doctor can be anyone" and "to do good DW you have to destroy its canon."
