Onto season 3 On The Up. Very likeable. Sam Kelly and Joan Sims pretty much steal it.

Watched Dark Materials series three episode one last night. All the other eps dropped on i-player so might give them a binge over the festive week. McAvoy is the best thing about that first episode.

Was rewatching Smallville, and felt very nostalgic as I remembered just how much I hate seeing Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan not get together.

Miami Vice - Mirror Image This blows Human Nature completely out of the water. I like that story, but John Smith never really does anything besides teach. Here, the good cop Sonny Crockett turns into a murdering bastard after losing his memory from an explosion, resulting in him believing himself to be his cover persona, "Burnett." He even tries to kill his partner Tubbs at one point. It's a very ambitious if somewhat far fetched episode, but to me it's a stunning opener to an epic trilogy that extends to the next season. Oh, and someone called Julia Roberts is in this episode. I don't know who she is either. She's very cute, though! I wonder if she had a career after Vice? 10/10

Was rewatching Smallville, and felt very nostalgic as I remembered just how much I hate seeing Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan not get together. I felt the same way once upon a time, now not so much LOL. I think Clark had a very lucky escape. That said however separating the art from the artist, ironically I think Smallville did the whole male villain becoming a woman thing soooo much better with Allison Mack's versions of Brainiac than Pissy Missy. With Brainiac it actually made sense story wise as his old body had been destroyed and he possessed her as she was Clark's friend and he couldn't hurt her, the characterisation matched. (The female Brainiac doesn't suddenly notice what a hunk Clark is, or become more emotional and start crying, she is still a ruthless, power hungry maniac.) Yet they were still able to use the fact that Brainiac was in a woman's body in a way they couldn't have used James version like her seducing Davies in order to control his alter ego and then using it as way to torture him, and again whilst she may be an awful person, and Michelle Gomez may be a lovely, awesome, lovable ducky by all accounts, I'm sorry but Allison Mack's performance as the evil Brainiac blows Gomez's performance as Pissy Missy out of the water. Looking back on it Michelle Gomez was actively awful as Missy. She can be good in other things, and I think I was a little too harsh on her before I admit, because I was just so angry that she'd been forced into that role for diversity rather than who was the best. (It's quite funny and sad though, because back then that casting someone for their gender rather than their talent seemed like a big deal. Now it's just par the course, especially in Doctor Who.) Also yes Missy's characterisation was still the main problem as Moffat just gave us River Song 4.0. instead of anything even resembling the Simm Master never mind the originals. Still by any metric her performance is AWFUL. It literally is like a panto dame, so OTT, not even remotely subtle and silly accents. Allison at least tried to match hers with James whilst bringing her own flair to it. It just goes to show you though that you really should separate the art from the artist, because obviously as a person, Gomez is amazing and Allison is a monster! However when it came to who was better at playing a gender bent version of a male villain Allison really embarrassed Michelle. The final proof of that is that Mack's happened with literally no one commenting on it. Who even noticed Brainiac a more iconic male villain had changed sex? With the Master meanwhile despite their attempts to hype Missy up as the most popular, she is by far the most hated Master and basically helped sink the franchise.

Miami Vice - Viking Bikers from Hell
This is when the show starts to go a bit insane and I'm all for it. Reb Brown (who I know best as the lead in the equally stupid Howling II) is part of a murderous biker gang and starts wasting people in order to avenge a friend's death. This is definitely on the "Howling II" side of the 80s which is to say it's completely bonkers, aggressively 80s and lacks any sort of substance. In other words, it's quality entertainment. I love how Reb Brown, regardless of what he's in, always screams at people before he shoots them. He's not a great actor but I've always thought he was a memorable B-movie muscle guy. Overall I really enjoyed this episode. Much better than they say.
9/10

Drop the Dead Donkey: Xmas Party. Wasn't this the ep that won an International Emmy? It's not hard to see why, with the season 2 finale being gutbustingly hilarious from beginning to uber-humiliating end.

The Simpsons: Grift of the Magi
The one where the Simpsons spend Christmas with Gary Coleman of all people. This is one of the better Christmas episodes to be honest mainly because Coleman is so funny it in. Wha'choo talkin' 'bout?

Miami Vice - Redemption in Blood (Part 3 of the Burnett trilogy)
Burnett tries to kill Tubbs (Again!) before remembering he's really Sonny Crockett although Vice are not so comfortable accepting him back. When Sonny escapes custody he desperately tries to not take down the bad guys he was working for and to win back his friends' trust.
Terrific end to a roller-coaster of a trilogy. Such an ambitious plot idea which, more or less, is well realized thanks to Don Johnson's tremendous performance. You really feel his pain and conflict throughout the episode as he tries desperately to remember who he really is. Matt Frewer is really good too though it's quite comical when he starts going on about a male cow giving milk. I thought only female cows did that? Apart from that it's flawless.
10/10

Really enjoying The Rockford Files on Blu ray. Classic 70s detective show with the great James Garner.

Latest series of Alan Partridge. It was a new years gift (yes among my family we give each other new year presents too.)
Absolutely hysterical. The bit where he is drunk on air is top Partridge. Also Ruth Duggan is such a bitch LOL.

Started Stay Lucky season 1. Pretty good so far. Slightly disappointed that Emma Wray isn't in season 1 (by the look of it anyway).

Rick and Morty is quite possibly the most outrageous and insane Sci fi show I've ever seen. It's best described as Classic Who meets South Park, if such a combination were possible. Strongly recommended to everyone on this forum.
