Been watching some classic Coronation Street on youtube. Some episodes are hysterical!
I remember a while back I watched the Mad Maya episodes. That was my fave story because it was just so insanely OTT. Basically Dev's ex Maya goes on a rampage and captures and tortures his wife, Sunita (played by the other big nosed goddess Shobna Gulati.)
Like I said before I remember being horrified by it at the time, but now not only is it hilariously camp, but I also totally understand why lots of people said they felt there was a strong lesbian subtext to Maya and Sunita. At the time I dismissed it as just being the usual "lets make the villain want to shag the hero" but in this case Jesus Christ. If you watched the scene where Maya kidnaps her without context it could be a love scene. Proves the myths that when girls hurt each other, directors will always try and make it more hot.
One girl I knew even said that scene made her realise she was bi as she wanted Maya to take her roughly too.
Just to be clear for those who haven't seen it, from what I remember we have Maya who is played by an absolutely gorgeous actress dressed in tight leather.

Whilst Shobna is in bed, and not wearing any trousers or underpants. We don't see Shobna's arse sadly from what I remember, but we do see her gorgeous legs. Anyway Maya jumps on Shobna and pins her down, and we then cut to the phone where we hear Shobna grunting, and then afterwards, we see Maya sitting on top of Shobna (who still doesn't have any trousers on and Maya is mounted over Shobna's arse too) having tied Shobna up, Maya then runs her fingers through Shobna's hair slowly and sensually, whilst Shobna's grunting, breathing heavily and sweaty, and Maya then whispers in her ear "I really, really want to hurt you."
Honestly whoever wrote and filmed that had a serious fetish! It's practically a pre watershed sex scene. I'm amazed both actresses didn't question their sexuality after filming that scene? I hope they did LOL. To be fair I reckon Shobna Gulati is responsible for quite a few women realising they are gay and bisexual because, well just look at her! It would make sense that she did that to Maya too. Would be a better plot twist than Maya being obsessed with Dev FFS. I often wondered when I was young though if Maya was more angry not at being dumped by Dev because he is so fabulous, but just at the idea that a guy like Dev would dare to dump someone so out of his league as her LOL. I like the lesbian explanation better now though not surprisingly.
BTW Shobna Gulati is an absolute peach in real life. Chatted with her a few times on instagram and she is always really funny and sweet. She was in something with the Maya actress recently and I joked that it's nice she's forgiven Maya for torturing and trying to burn her and she said she will never forgive her for that LOL.
To be fair I'm sure Maya is just as pissed off at Shobna for making her question her sexuality, just by being Shobna Gulati.
