Remembrance is more visually appealing because a lot of it was shot on location in London while Caves is mostly set bound. I also like how Remembrance takes place in the swinging sixties rather than a sandy planet in the middle of nowhere. I like Caves now but Remembrance and indeed Fenric are on a different level. Well Fenric was one of the first examples of a sub genre of vampire fiction that is my favourite.

I've never got the love the Fenric myself.
Yes, I appreciate that there was a recognizable concerted move to make the series more serious and professional again from the panto nonsense it became post hiatus and indeed the production values, direction, incidental music and acting all go up a notch in McCoys last two seasons.
However the acting of the two regulars gets markedly worse and some of the dialogue written is pure cryptic gibberish.
How the hell does pieces on a chess board determine events in Fenric anyhow?
The lack of explainations is frustrating. I don't require being spoonfed exposition like a frigging moron, but I do appreciate cohesive chronological events.
Why does Ace jump fully dressed into freezing cold sea water at the end for no fathomable reason whatsoever?
Utterly ludicrous.

I thought it was to pure her mind and body personally. It's hardly a plot hole really.
The real question is why does Peri jump into the sea when she knows she can't swim in Planet of Fire? Is she just a numpty?

Is she just a numpty? She's American, of course she's a numpty. It's precisely the thing they do. Mind you, at least she was in a swimsuit rather than fully clothed!

I'd make the claim that every story in Season 26 is better than Caves, even Battlefield.

Remembrance I think is a good one for betraying the myth of classic who stories are badly paced. There is never a dull moment in it.

Ghost Light and Fenric are Hinchcliffe stories done right. Dark, deep stuff with complex layers that challenge the audience and subvert their expectations with non linear techniques.
That sounded a bit pretentious. I'm not trying to be. That's just the way I see the stories.

I'm afraid I'm with Rani on this one, I prefer "Caves" purely because the level of the acting is just so darn good and the dialogue(and monologues) are so darn well written. I do prefer "Remembrance" for it's dalek action scenes and faster moving plot, but "Caves" nudges it for me with it's more adult approach. Not only is Rani holding the same opinion as the Hive majority but even Rob agrees with him! And I do, too. There's always part of me that finds the earlier bits of Remembrance slightly episodic, and even Who fanatic schoolmates of mine found the bizarre zapping of the Dalek a weird cliffhanger resolution. Unlike Silver Nemesis though it does all build to a wonderful climax and there's a really dark undertone to it, from the little girl to the downbeat finale - the 'ashes to ashes, dust for dust' scene was beautifully directed and acted. Nu Who's attempts to do anything similar haven't been in the same league. I just find Caves is near-perfect throughout. Even the magma monster didn't bother me the 1st time I saw it (less than the planet shots did, at least).
