Power however is by far and away the worst ever episode of Blake's 7. It's utterly laughable. Ironically, Paul Darrow ranked it as one of the eight must-see episodes of the series. XD EDIT: There's a crapton of interviews with Darrow in the Marvel Monthly B7 range, he was basically a regular there and talked about everything and everyone. One of the things they had him do was name the eight episodes he'd take to a desert island with him. He named Time Squad, Horizon, Star One, Aftermath, Sarcophagus, Terminal, Power and Blake.

It's laughably bad. I guess if I were to rank my 8 must see episodes they'd be. 8/ the second episode. 7/ Aftermath 6/ Power Point 5/ Orbit 4/Star One 3/Sand 2/Sarchophagus 1/ Blake

Mine would be
Seek-Locate-Destroy Pressure Point Gambit Aftermath Rumours of Death Terminal Orbit Blake
Darrow's choices make more sense if you read the Blake's 7 stuff he wrote. He has... peculiar tastes.

Yeah, Dudley's music for Blake's 7 is way better than his work for Doctor Who.

Yeah, Dudley's music for Blake's 7 is way better than his work for Doctor Who. It’s definitely more consistently intense than his Who work, although his score for Fury from the Deep (and even The War Games) is sublime. He becomes repetitive and formulaic about halfway into the 70s, but it’s a formula which is serviceable nevertheless.

Am I the only one who likes The Web then? I think it's more interesting than entertaining It's cool seeing Blake decide whether or not to side with the aggressors - in that sense, it ties back into the first three episodes (where Blake is exposed to different totalitarian ecosystems - the Dome, the London and Cygnus Alpha). But the problem is that the aliens just aren't that memorable.

For me it marked the point where Blakes7 could outclass Doctor Who in horror and weirdness(Doctor Who was starting to show definite signs of being muted by Mary Whitehouse by that stage) I like the aliens in it too, they remind me of baby Zygons before their suckers have hatched and theres some quality eye-acting going on within those suits in some scenes.

I watched Blake earlier. I remember being in total shock for days when I first watched it. The ending leaves me feeling so numb and heartbroken. It's a quality episode of the show though and the tension is unbearable at times. Mary Ridge is a splendid director and it looks good despite some iffy effect shots, but the real highlight is the script. It's wonderfully written, more so than Bob Holmes's script for Caves of Androzani.

I like comparing Terminal and Blake. Terminal was intended to be the finale, and it's the last episode written by Terry Nation so in an essence it IS his finale. And then Blake went on to be the real ending. But there's interesting differences and similarities in how Nation and Chris Boucher approached ending the show, which reflects on their styles as writers.
The setup is fairly similar for both - Avon has found Blake, and wants to reunite with him. In both cases, Blake is on a distant and dangerous world. In both cases, the Federation is preparing a trap.
But the execution is so fascinatingly different. Terminal is a much colder episode imo. It's an epilogue rather than a finale: Blake is already dead, and the war with the Federation was lost at Star One. Humanity is doomed to become the savage Links. The crew never stood a chance. (I also love that Avon gets brainwashed in a very similar way to Blake in The Way Back).
In Blake, however, Boucher focuses much less on the big picture and more on the characters. The fact that they DID have a chance and only squandered it because of their own flaws is the entire tragedy. They go out defiantly, guns blazing, western style.
