A good episode in a poor era, yes. I'd say a great episode in a good era Just about watchable if you cut out all the Jodie bits with her moronic companions and cut out all of the Master bits too. I skipped all of those bits on iplayer.

I skipped all of those bits on iplayer. Ah, so that's how you got through it. I'd given you up for dead for a bit there, Rob...

Fortunately iPlayer has a thumbnail previewer on it's time/slider, so I was able to gauge where all the Classic who bits were and just watch those whilst skipping all the Jodie bits, it made for a mildly entertaining episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures.

I'm honestly pissed at the classic actors for being in it. Seeing Ian acknowledge a female Doctor is just a slap in the face. Have you ever known a group as desperate to insert themselves into someone else's story the way the makers of New Who have with old who? It's f*cking creepy and weird. They have to crowbar in Jodie to Tom Baker's Scratchman book that was written before she was born, they have to retcon all time lords as being gender neutral, they have to do an audio where the burned Master is jealous of River Song etc. What is with these assholes in having to leech off of the original?

Seeing Ian acknowledge a female Doctor is just a slap in the face I wouldn't go so far as to call it a slap in the face, but I was slightly peeved that this was his only line. I wanted something more character-specific after all this time. Maybe have him call Graham "O'Bannon" as a cute callback to Hartnell's fluffs. Or have him be a slightly grumpy old man who insists he get his way because he wasn't knighted by Richard the Lionheart for nothing lol. Edit: I think Ian has it in him to be cranky in his old age!

Well maybe slap in the face is a bit much, but then again this is the hive LOL. I just can't stand the way that the new who writers attitude isn't simply "this is our version." It's "this is our version and you have to like it because we are going to smear it over every single thing classic who related." Like having Jodie show up and save the day in Scratchman. What a nasty spiteful thing of James Goss to do. (And yes he was the one who wrote it, not Tom Baker.)

I've read Scratchman lol, it's very obvious which parts were written by Tom and which weren't.

Well he seems to be a little shy posting here since logging on, so I thought I'd create a thread where we're nice to Rani and say things which will give him a nice warm fuzzy glow inside to show that we're not all mean here. I'll start: Christopher Eccleston is a terrific actor and RTD is obviously the bestest writer on the whole planet evaaaah. In fact he's so good, I'm willing donate an autographed copy of "The Writers Tale" to him which came into my possession a while back -SQUEEEE! NuWho is the bestest evaaah. If I find any Jodie socks for sale on ebay I promise I'll buy some for him as a Xmas pressie. Three new episodes have aired and Rani hasn’t turned up. On these grounds, I feel compelled to bump this thread.

I actually have The Writers Tale from way back when I was an RTD fanboy. Started reading and within a few pages he was lusting over some teen actors in a Channel 4 series.

Where *has* Rani gone? I’m surprised he hasn’t turned up in months to commend either Davies or Starmer. After all, both are as widely loved as they’ve ever been!
I wonder if he liked Empire of Death or not…?

I wonder if he liked Empire of Death or not…? Obviously Russell T Fatheads latest Disney gruel is so excruciatingly rubbish, not even his biggest fanboy Rani can bring themselves to watch it any more. I reckon he's set fire to his personally signed copy of "The Writers Tale" and swept all the framed photos of Fathead off the mantlepiece in a peak of distraught disillusionment and bitter bereavement.

Either that, or Greta Thunberg has strangled him with her pigtails!
