As you c*nts know, I moved to Japan 10 years ago. I was wondering if any of you would ever like to visit, or have any questions about being here. I'd be happy to share my insight.

Is it true that Japan still covers up their role in WW2 in media and history books? I hope not. That always seemed to be a bit of a myth to me as a recent Godzilla movie had Godzilla being sent by angry spirits of Japan's victims in WW2 to destroy it in penance, and it was a fairly successful movie.

What was the biggest culture shock for yourself after initially moving and keeping on topic with the forum, what's the attitude to DW like there?

This is a tough topic. Basically, under Abe, the government past rules that any history book used in school must teach the current government's interpretation. As such, the Board of Education's hands were tied. However, many teachers have stood firm and taught the crimes of Japan, and it is something that is most certainly covered despite the governments efforts. Some teachers have risked being sacked just by teaching it, but the parents supported them. In short, the Japanese people accept it and want to know more, but c*nts in government try to deny the facts. As a former teacher in the public school system, I think you should certainly not view the country as denying the facts, and actually really respect the efforts teachers have gone to make sure the people know, and in their ongoing fight against the LDP>
Godizzla was always a propaganda piece about pollution. I've not seen anything like what you describe.

What was the biggest culture shock for yourself after initially moving and keeping on topic with the forum, what's the attitude to DW like there? Probably seeing extremely hardcore pornographic magazines sat next to the kids comic section. Like seriously, you have Shonen Jump comics on the left, and then a picture of a women covered in cum on the right, and this is just normal for most bookshops.
DW was a bit of a hit in the RTD years. The Capeldi era was released on DVD dubbed in Japan, but the Jodie Era appears to have been the end of New Who here.

This book was part of a set of 5 Doctor Who adventures translated into Japanese and released in 1980:

I do find the odd BF CD at BookOff in Tokyo. And I found a few Dalek figures in Akihabara. The oddest thing I found was Dr. in the Tardis by the KLF at a karaoke place near my home.

Great answer. I certainly would never judge the Japanese people for it. To start with I hate to judge a whole race, as race is nothing. Culture and ideology are at the root of all the evils of man, and if history has shown us anything then it is that all races can have shitty cultures and belief systems. Second I also wouldn't judge the Japanese people based on their government. Given I like in the UK that would be a tad hypocritical given what our government has done to both its people and other countries around the world like Iraq LOL. As for Godzilla, well this was a film released in the early 2000s. (So not that recent LOL.) That reimagined Godzilla as being sent to punish modern day Japan for its sins in the war. Here it is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla,_Mothra_and_King_Ghidorah:_Giant_Monsters_All-Out_Attack It's quite a dark, scary Godzilla movie. I must admit due to childhood nostalgia, I prefer the big G to be a good guy, but this was one of the better Godzilla is a villain movies after the first one

The thing that always stuck in my mind about Japan was that line from Charles Grey's character in You Only Live Twice, when he mentions he's been over there most of his adult life and he's only just starting to adapt to it.
Is it that difficult? You seem to enjoy the culture and lifestyle, how long did it take you to settle? Do you miss anything about the West?

That's it, I'm moving to Japan. To be fair you get magazines covers with women covered in cum in my local Asda. That's why they gave me a lifetime ban from shopping there again. They're still wiping off the stains from Jodie's face on one of the DWM issues.
