I'll watch Web Planet 100 times over any Tennant episode! In all seriousness though I do understand why it's not for everyone. Not only is it a high concept story being done one a nothing budget, it's pacing is lethargic at best and the dialog can be marmite. Still I love it for it's weirdness, it's imagination and effort. The Hartnell years truly are the antithesis of anything nuwho.

I'm very forgiving of The Web Planet's faults, largely because of what it TRIES to achieve, even if it fails some respects. NuWho isn't even on the same page when it comes to imagination and atmosphere.

You could've at least picked K9 & Co. Hmm. It's a general life-rule, but even on Pornhub i tend to steer clear of chicks with opioid eyes, dressed as Andy Pandy, carrying around severed hands in tupperware boxes... "Actually, it's more of a guide-line than a rule..."

😆
But in all serious, nothing Sladen did in Classic Who was degrading. But School Reunion was. Sarah reduced to ChavalongaRose. Awful stuff.

Did I miss any? I feel I've given the Tennant era the disrespect it deserves. Actually, i think you've been quite astonishingly generous...

Ah- I forgot about School Reunion.
“Did I do something wrong? You never came back for me. You just dumped me.”
“I waited for you. I missed you. You were my life.”
What? I’m fairly certain Sarah became fatigued and buggered off of her own free will. She also met him again- in multiple incarnations- in The Five Doctors (he did “come back for her!”), and never expressed such lovesick emotions. Where has this come from?
Ah- the contrived thought processes of a writer and showrunner desperate to sustain soap opera tropes…

Come on Bernard, you know this shit, you poor excuse for a geek..! Anyway, she seemed more amused than anything else when the Doctor dropped her in the wrong part of the country. She certainly wasn't crying into her pillow and sniffing his pants..!

Come on Bernard, you know this shit, you poor excuse for a geek..! You’re technically right, but that’s also the excuse Davies and Whithouse artificially insert into the script and give to the Tenth Doctor, bereft of prior context. She was *also* pissed off at that bloody “sonic screwdriver” and intended to bugger off anyway, irrespective of whether humans were allowed on Gallifrey or not. The Gallifrey revelation simply gave her some additional perspective after flat out writing him off. Re- being a crap geek. Given the state of “geekdom”, I’ll personally take that as a compliment. 😉

She certainly wasn't crying into her pillow and sniffing his pants..! To be fair she did sniff his coat in Planet of the Spiders which I always thought was quite creepy and weird and put me off the Sarah/Doctor pairing on my last rewatch for a bit. Still let's play devils advocate, even if she did have feelings for him, then as if she would just sit alone crying her eyes out over him for 20 years. People do move on, and to be honest Sarah always seemed to be one to go with him not because she was so doe eyed in her admiration but because she was worried he'd get himself killed. Hell even during her travels with him, she spends a long time away from him (during Planet of the Spiders) and in Terror of the Zygons he has to guilt her into going with him! Her being worried that something had happened to him and being relieved, would be better than her being all jealous of Rose Tylah, and us getting some third rate Buffy/Angel crap of I'll outgrow the ones I love so I have to dump them. Also I think it's funny that they say he forgot about her, yet reference K9 and company which was about how Sarah had moved on with her life, and so the Doctor rather than pick her up again, simply left her K9 as a present LOL

No offense to Sladen but I really cannot understand why she's so highly though of beyond the fact she was the main companion for Pertwee and Tom when the show was having one of it's best runs.
She's easily the weakest of boths companions, with her being at her best in season 11 and losing most of her defining character traits once she's paired with Tom.

She's not bad, but the hype definitely makes me more critical of the character. To be honest, Leela and Romana were much better companions.

She's easily the weakest of boths companions, with her being at her best in season 11 and losing most of her defining character traits once she's paired with Tom. That's it exactly. More people will have seen her due to that era's popularity not only in the 70s, but in terms of video releases and repeat showings, with Genesis for instance being the most repeated story in Classic Who history. Meanwhile Pyramids of Mars similarly was repeated many times and actually scored higher viewers for a repeat showing. That is it in a nutshell. Personally I do like Sarah, and she was my favourite as a child, but ultimately yeah she's overrated. She doesn't really have anything distinctive in terms of backstory like Jamie who is from another time, Ace who has a big supernatural back story, Leela who is a warrior woman from another time etc. She also as you say past season 11 becomes a bit more generic, and Lis Sladen whilst generally good in the role is far from the best actress they ever had. Is she really a better actor than say Sophie Aldred (okay I'm biased so maybe leave out that one LOL.) Katy Manning, Jacqueline Hill or William Russell or say Frazer Hines? Yet Moffat said all the 60s actors were awful and lucky to get equity cards, whilst always praising Lis Sladen? Plus as we've been over, like most actors she has her weak points at certain moments. Whilst Pertwee struggled to do pain and McCoy could overdo anger, Liz definitely over did being scared a lot of the time too. Really she benefits from being with the two most popular Doctors at a time when the show as at its peak, and not being awful so nobody would think of her as the weak link, but they might over do her importance in those stories a bit. For instance would Pyramids of Mars have been any different with, Zoe, Jamie or Jo?

To be fair she did sniff his coat in Planet of the Spiders which I always thought was quite creepy and weird and put me off the Sarah/Doctor pairing on my last rewatch for a bit. I'm a bit puzzled as to why you'd find that 'creepy and weird'. Her relationship with Pertwee's Doctor in particular was much more familial. She was missing him and worried about him, and not even sure of she would ever see him again. I think reminding herself of his smell was meant to be a gesture of either psychological reassurance, or even a manifestation of grief. Not dissimilar to the actions of a bereaved person. It's a subtle gesture if anything. Nothing creepy about it, in my opinion.
