I know he doesn't have the same marquee value as Tennant to the overall audience, but I feel like McGann got robbed again. He's getting towards the end of his prime now, and we've missed out on another oppurtunity to bring him back (he doesn't even appear in the first batch of Tales).
They could've kept Jodie's regeneration a cliffhanger and then done three standalone specials with the Eighth Doctor, ending it with a multi-Doctor adventure between him and Gatwa if they wanted. McGann being a bridge between the old series and the new, it'd be fitting.
Instead of bringing back Donna, I suggest making Mel the main companion. The story of The Star Beast doesn't even need to change that much. The Doctor and Mel both respond to the Meep's distress signal and team up to stop her. Skip the binary stuff and instead use Mel's computer knowledge (gained from her natural skills + years of travelling with Glitz) to defeat the villain.
The Doctor manages to tempt Mel to take the TARDIS "just for a spin or two". You can insert 1000 Big Finish audios here, Briggs.
Wild Blue Yonder can mostly stay as is, except without the angst or the Isaac Newton bit. At the end, the Doctor is recalled by the Brigadier's old time telegraph. You can still have the Wilf cameo here - maybe he has a desk job at UNIT.
With The Giggle, I rather like the idea that Gatwa's Doctor is imprisoned by the Toymaker, and McGann needs to get him out somehow. Gatwa's Doctor, remembering all this, is basically preparing on his end to do something clever as well. More mind games, less Spice Girls. They defeat the Toymaker, shake hands, happy ending. Mel decides to stay at UNIT, but suggests some others might like a nostalgic spin too.
End it with McGann taking the TARDIS to that companions meeting from Power of the Doctor to surprise them. Insert any cameo you please here.
