He's dreadful, to be honest. I didn't even go in hating him, but I never got the sense that he was ever going to bring something new to the role either. His performance is just default RTD Doctor. Never has the Doctor felt so far away from the real character.

Gatwa is so unwatchable that he's already achieved the impossible by making Jodie seem preferable. Unlike his predecessors, he's not even playing a watered-down imitation of the Doctor. He's literally just a random RTD sexual fantasy insert who bears absolutely zero resemblance to the original character.
NuWho is a national embarrassment.

Gatwa is so unwatchable that he's already achieved the impossible by making Jodie seem preferable. Unlike his predecessors, he's not even playing a watered-down imitation of the Doctor. He's literally just a random RTD sexual fantasy insert who bears absolutely zero resemblance to the original character. NuWho is a national embarrassment. "Ahhh no babes!" To be honest I still don't think he is as bad as Jodie. People are beginning to forget, because her era was so forgettable just how bad she was. Her ridiculous trying to be zany expressions that bordered on Arnold Rimmer type expressions, her attempts at being kooky by picking her nose, saying I'm socially awkward I am, asking if everybody was Ed Sheeran, that dreadful, unflattering Colin Bakeresque costume, the way she overdid her accent and best of all, not comforting her friend being scared of dying because "eeeeeiiiiiiiiiiieeeeee I'm socially awkward I am." On top of that her Doctor was just so bland as well. I mean other than being the first female Doctor, there was nothing, absolutely nothing to her. No aspects of her own personality that were brought in, no unique quirks, nothing but what was on the page. It pains me to say it, but even Ncuti has brought aspects of himself and distinctive quirks into it. Granted the wrong aspects like dancing in clubs LOL, but still, at least he's trying and not just playing it on default. I think Gatwa comes over as a more decent chap as well. Supporting fans (and Misha B too when she was feeling down, he left a nice message on her insta page which was very sweet of him.) I mean I'm not saying Jodie was a bitch or anything. I'm sure she was nice in real life, but she went down the whole "hahahaha take that bigots" approach in the media when promoting her era that honestly did her no favours. Granted a lot of the time the actors had to do that when the culture war was raging, like Freema Agyeman for instance, who had to suddenly say 15 years later that she got a lot of racist responses when that was never an issue from fandom before. Jodie's meanwhile was waaaaay worse, she said people who didn't want a female Doctors mothers would be ashamed of them, did that obnoxious video owning the haters, from the start was condescending and said "don't be scared of my gender" in an interview, even her f*cking trailer was her breaking a glass ceiling, and best of all she also insulted dozens of other female heroes and actress. Pretty much everyone from Diana Rigg, to Sigourney Weaver, to Sophie Aldred, to Sarah Michelle Gellar, to Lucy Lawless, to Lana Parilla, she insulted by going on about how women never get good roles in sci fi and fantasy and she hopes the Doctor changes that. Also finally let's not forget it was her era and Capaldi's that finally destroyed DW. Really there isn't anything left to ruin by the time Ncuti is on the picture. I mean look at how muted even our response was to something as stupid as Bi Regeneration. If that had come in 2013 we'd have all been furious at it, but at this stage? Who cares? We already don't want new who to be canon now. I also think Chibnall who cast, wrote for and guided Jodie is still the worst writer in DW's history. He has a tragic lack of imagination and really does just jump on every fad he comes across. At least the other new who writers, even if their ideas have been misguided and jumping on fads, inject something else into it. Chibbers really is Whizz Kid, the guy who goes out with no ideas of his own. I think RTD is Captain Cook, the egocentric blow hard who lures people in at first by being a bit charismatic but drives them crazy with his ego, and who then returns after he's finished. (From the looks of things his career will go down the pit like Cook did too after his return.) Moffat is the receptionist and the rapping circus master, both aware of how crap it is becoming, but are enslaved by the higher ups and have to do tacky things to keep in with them. She also let Whizz Kid in despite knowing how useless he was because she hoped he would be a useful distraction, same way Moff convinced Chibbers to take over to make his own era look better in comparison, despite knowing he was possibly the worst choice. The BBC elites finally are the Gods of Ragnarok, who just want to keep it going for their own benefit, not caring if it's any good or not. Here's hoping much like the psychic circus, DW is one day free of them all. |

I find him hard to watch and yes, I would rather take Jodie over him (at the moment. He might change). I haven't watched or read many interviews with him to be fair, but yeah that is even worse than Jodie's crap. In that respect he is worse, but I still say that she was worse overall. |

Kudos to Doug Naylor for not compromising Red Dwarf, by the way.
Sure, series 7-9 were awkward experimental years, but compared to New Who, it's nowhere near. And he did ultimately learn his lesson and get back on track. The Promised Land in 2020 still feels like part of the same show that started in 1988.
Makes me even more mad that Rob Grant is trying to butt in. I know Rob was a huge part of the show's legacy, but ousting Doug after years of him carrying Red Dwarf on his own and then trying to take over to make... prequels? What a prick.
