A decent episode but Christmas stories aren't normally classics and this had the added task of introducing a new Doctor and companion so the plot was fairly thin. The two leads were though superb - Ncuti is very charismatic. Some good lines and The Timeless Child revelations don't look so odd and restore the character's mystery. Overall a solid 7/10. Good ratings again as the most watched drama of the day beaten only by His Majesty The King and Strictly.

"this had the added task of introducing a new Doctor and companion so the plot was fairly thin."
Yet they were fine knocking it out of the park with Spearhead back in 1970.

I disagree. Spearhead is one of the most polished Holmes scripts. At least the villains are there for a reason and not designed solely to release a single.

I just find it really shallow. Plastic monsters! Well... so what? Why should I care? It's another one of those "take something normal and turn it into a killer" ideas that New Who would really run away with. But I've never found that a very interesting concept. What's next? Living bonfires that chase you around? I want my villains to have some personality, history and intrigue behind them.
The dynamic between Liz, the Doctor and the Brig is the only good thing about Spearhead, aside from its direction.

Who cares if Spearhead is "deep"? I've said it before but Doctor Who does not have to be a philosophical heavyweight. Spearhead is great because of how slick and sharp the script is. It effortlessly reinvents and sets in motion a second golden age for Doctor Who in the space of just under two hours.

I'm not talking about philosophical heavyweights, I'm talking about something that keeps me engaged. You have to have a little depth to your characters to make them interesting to watch.
Look at Carnival of Monsters. That's not a heavyweight either, but there's an awesome central concept that we get some background on, there's lots of memorable side characters, I love everything we learn about the alien planet. There's a variety of environments.
Spearhead's boring. Sorry, but it is. It's just UNIT doing UNIT stuff, and some random bloke ordering mannequins around. I don't see why I should give a shit. At least Terror of the Autons has Delgado going for it.

The Season 1 trailer. It will probably make Series 1 look like a masterpiece, but it won't hold a candle to Season 1.

Season 1 Teaser? Amazing how different Hartnell looks now it's in colour!
If it's referring to the new show then the only way they could 'tease' me is by having a continuity announcer solemnly declaring the show has been binned, once and for all...

Oh god just looked at that. Of course there is a gay romance for the Doctor.
Also those Beatles doubles don't look very good. The one with glasses who I assume is John Lennon, looks more like Ron Nasty from the Rutles. It would be a hilarious plot twist if he went to visit the Rutles instead of the Beatles LMAO.
