If it really was to stop masturbation it hasn't worked.

She's definitely a real person, as that's too much of a sense of humour for a fembot. If they do have that sense of humour then that's scary LOL

Partners in Crime. Has Catherine Tate always been this hot or have I just been blind? I actually enjoyed this for the first time ever. I dunno, there's an energy to the direction and I like the fact that it's just a fun run around to start off the series. It's mostly all filmed at night around housing areas which I find weirdly comforting for some reason. Gold's score is pretty good too. Obviously some of it is quite nasty especially that awful Stacey Campbell character who ditches her boyfriend because she can do better. Why does Russell write these type of characters? Anyway, I'd really like to give Miss Foster one over a table. "Rear of the year" indeed Entertaining stuff. 7.5/10

Midnight
Probably Russell's best script. Interesting how creative the production team can be when they don't have the budget or the effects to do something extravagant. Just a group of people on a tour bus and a creepy entity. I always found it entertaining seeing how they all go from charming and friendly to paranoid and contemplating murder. The second from last scene is by far my favourite with all of them sitting apart from each other in silence. It is a scary episode even though we don't get any real answers. Do we really need any though? It's effective the way it is.
9/10

It's funny RTD can be a thoughtful guy about the mysteries of the universe, the nature of existence, why are we here, when he puts his mind to cosmic horror as seen in Midnight, Utopia, Waters of Mars etc. It's just that sadly due to his prejudices about sci fi not being proper telly, he often doesn't unless he has too and would rather write a soap. It's a shame but writers and directors often don't know their own strengths. Take a look at this article. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagnumOpusDissonanceIt's why things like script editors are important in tv as they can help steer people in the right direction.

The Sontaran Stratagem
The "I don't like guns" nonsense aside, this is more in line with the classic series. I mean UNIT vs the Sontarans on modern day Earth! Not only that, but the best modern companion Martha returns. She's so good in fact that they make a double of her. I'm not sure I can really say what I think about there being two Marthas running around without being called an almighty pervert. I quite like the cliffhanger, too. I hope The Poison Sky holds up for me as well.
Who is that chick at the beginning who dies in the car? She's gorgeous.

Fires of Pompeii
This is utter crap. The eruption is well realized, but the rest of it is so boring. All the characters are annoying and I absolutely hate Gold's music in this one. I get the TARDIS translation aspect, but why does everyone in Pompeii sound like they come from the 21st century?
I was warming to Series 4, but this episode has buggered it up for me again.

New Who like I said is kind of the opposite in terms of rewatch value in that it's so much better when you watch it as a whole thing and get sucked into its world, where as old who I feel is better when you watch random stories, though that's not to say you can't have fun with them both the other way (I really liked my classic who rewatch and for all my talk I am thinking of doing another soon, but from Hartnell.) Still personally I think that's the best way to watch New Who and it's nice to see you appreciating more of new who. Honestly it's not bad for its first 7 years. It's a fine adaptation of the DW story, it's just awkward as a sequel, which is why ironically an alternate sequel would be good for new who too, not just the old. Sadly however I think Capaldi on it's just as bad as a sequel to the first 7 years of new who, never mind classic. Missy is a terrible parody of Simm's complex and tragic villain, the return of the time lords is so underwhelming when you look at how much it meant to the Doctor in the previous years. Tennant f*cking cries when the Master of all people dies, because he doesn't want to be the last time lord anymore. Capaldi's reaction to seeing they're back in the universe. CLARA: I thought you said Gallifrey was frozen in another dimension? DOCTOR: Well, they must have unfrozen it and come back. CLARA: How? DOCTOR: I didn't ask. It would make them feel clever.Similarly the timeless children undermines him being the last time lord, him becoming gay undermines the Doctor/Rose love story etc. To be honest there needs to be a cut off point for new who fans and writers, but that's for them to sort out as to be fair the fitzroy crowd in that case f*cked up their own creation.

The monsters were awesome in this story and it had that chick who played Mad Maya in Corrie, who was gorgeous and sexy as the villain rather than fat monsters? Different strokes, but I thought you were a man of taste Maxil?

It is awful, and the start of what all shows seem to do now by having historical characters behave like it's 21st century London. Irritating as f**k.
That being said Partners in Crime is execrable shite too.

That being said Partners in Crime is execrable shite too. There's a few jokes about that with the family, but to be fair that's a tradition that long predates new who. Otherwise though I think it's done well. The cult that Mad Maya is a part of isn't like something from the 21st century and the ending where the family see Pompei burn is very effective. Only thing wrong with it is that the Doctor kils scores of innocent people and it's not really that big a deal for him afterwards. In fact he is back to condemning his clone for killing the Daleks to save the universe.

The Doctor's Daughter
Remembered this being awful, but it was actually a bit of a breeze. It helps that Martha is in it. It's almost distressing watching her cry. Georgia Moffett is absolutely gorgeous in this and even though the initial "hello, dad" stuff annoyed me I kind of warmed to her. It's a run of the mill episode with plenty of dashing about, but it's not anything special. The "I never would" bit is just too much for me. The rest of it is fairly watchable.
