Lester's film is a bastardisation with interminable comedy sequences and a Gene Hackman impersonator.
I'm not calling the Donner Cut a finished product by any means, but it keeps the atmosphere and dignity of his vision. And the pacing is so much better.
Edit: Also, it has the best scene Reeve ever filmed as the character. That acting! A crime to cut it.

To be fair, I totally agree about the Hackman impersonator. I wouldn't have minded so much if he actually sounded anything like Hackman lol

The original Superman is the best of the series, but III is the most underrated. Pryor, evil Superman, a robot woman... what's not to enjoy? I confess I don't care much for Superman 3. However the evil superman fight is brilliant, and Reeve's best performance. Also the scene where the woman gets turned into a robot scared the absolute shit out of me. I first saw it when I was like three and i screamed I was so scared. I never saw the end of it for years after that. When I went to the comments section on that scene uploaded to Youtube every single comment is from people going on about how it terrified them as kids too. It's practically a support group haha. It's just a shame though watching it back whilst the scene is still very well done and frightening, the end result is just a goofy super computer and everyone is okay. If she had been turned into a robot then it would be one of the most memorable scenes of horror in any super hero film. PS I do NOT approve of the uploader insulting the actresses looks. That is a mean thing to do. I won't get up on my high horse about it, as maybe he was just a teenager at the time or a twenty something, but just to be clear I don't condone it, but this is the best version on youtube.

The Annette O'Toole scenes aside, I don't find anything redeemable about Superman III. Not even the evil Clark thing (which made no sense). Yeah, it's cool to see Reeve act mean, but it has no weight and it goes nowhere.

Mmm Pamela Stephenson Yeah, that title is messed up. It's so unnecessary as well. There's no reason to add the ugly bit. It isn't even true.

Pretty sure his parents are killed in every version. Besides, I don't even care whether they INTENDED it to be a continuation at the time... the first two movies were Tim Burton's vision of Batman. Without him it's clearly something else entirely. I think he even came out and derided The Flash recently, noting that others using his Batman without any input from him was a form of cultural appropriation. He's not wrong.

Tim Burton had so much more balls with that statement than Terrance Dicks or Philip Hinchcliff or sadly Colin Baker in regards to New Who.

Yeah, it's cool to see Reeve act mean, but it has no weight and it goes nowhere. I find it remarkably well constructed myself. It's the only film where some of the humour doesn't feel completely out of place.

Yes, but his parents weren't killed by the Joker in every version. In fact, I think Burton's version was the first to have him be the killer (please correct me if I'm wrong, nerds)

Always thought Superman II was by far the best. Find the original a bit dull and the third a bit too silly but the second is basically perfect. Was always baffled by the need for a "Donner cut" when the original is sublime entertainment. Okay boomers.

I don't see what the dilemma is regarding Keaton? He's obviously just there for nostalgia points. I gave up on his appearance being anything worth a damn the minute I heard it was in a Flash movie.

I'm not sure why Pryor can't play such a role.

It's just the Donner cut elevates it from "good movie" to "one of the best superhero motion pictures". Tightened editing (massively improving the final battle in particular), better opening sequence, better takes. Donner restored a brilliant bit of comedy in the White House, from the female villain. A lovely bit of dark humour that fits the film far better than Lester's corny rubbish.
