Even without knowing about his culinary habits I still want to punch Neil Patrick Harris in that picture. His performance is going to be a Missy 2.0. A sub Joker, that people who haven't ever seen the Joker because their knowledge of the genre only extends to RTD's first era think is groundbreaking. Still at least we won't have psychopaths like Elizabeth Sandifier arguing that we should be doxxed if we don't like it, like with Missy as there doesn't seem to be any politics behind it.

It just ISN'T the Toymaker. Regardless of what you want or wish him to be, he was always a tall and ghostly figure in an oriental smock, very much a mirror to Hartnell's Doctor: a refined older gentleman who is at once stern and cheekily playful. This just isn't even the same character, and illustrates perhaps why the Toymaker should have been left as a strange relic of primordial Who, rather than being contrived into existence in a modern setting. Won't be surprised if RTD brings back the Chumblies next series; he's mentioned them fondly before so who knows at this point.

Again like the Master who was supposed to be a Blofeld, Moriarty type villain, again a somewhat dark reflection of the Doctor, the old gentlemanly character is now a giggling psychopath.

Ironic that those are two characters who've also been turned into giggling buffoons in modern times

Mel appears to be confirmed for the third Tennant special, fans spotted her in the background of a new shot in the Disney+ trailer Yeah, I spotted her too. Pause at 0:35 and that redhead in the background should look familiar.

I dig the Toymaker, but they missed a trick not bringing Fenric back. Now that guy was bad news.

I must admit I am excited. For once I just want to be entertained as a Doctor Who fan. Three specials, Mel (sorry, but I love her to bits), the Toymaker (even if he is played by NPH), my childhood Doctor and what looks to be a far bigger budget than we've had before. They've obviously delved deep into the history of the series, even going as far as to include Beep the Meep from a comic book. I'm sure there will be lots of nods to the classic series and perhaps a few surprises that they're not showing us. I just can't be bothered to be angry anymore.

I think the specials look fine for what they are and I am looking forward to them. My only issues really are whether it's just an RTD circlejerk (three 60th specials, and just his Doctor looks really suss and narcissistic as f**k to be honest... hoping the second special has a lot more proper anniversary stuff). I can't get het up over the Toymaker, whose first story was pretty s**t tbh, and an argument could be made (more so than the Master) that this shapeshifting cosmic entity would choose a form more akin to the Doctor he's effing with at the time.
I'm just hoping it's more than Tennant and Tate (sorry but still one of the crappiest pairings in the show's history) and am rather peeved that it'll probably a cameo at best if we even get Matt and Karen (easily the best New Poo team), and praying we don't get any acknowledgement of Pisstaker (beyond possible decanonisation lol).
I'm more worried about Ncuti's stuff to be honest. I have grave concerns about the way he's going to play it and fear Jodie-levels of cringe.

I'm excited, but only to see Beep The Meep - 'The Star Beast' is a Pat Mills/John Wagner comic strip adapted for mainstream television. To me, that's far more important than seeing Tennant and Tate again (especially since I didn't particularly like them the first time around.) However, I must admit I'm slightly curious about how Tennant will play the Doctor, now that he's in his '50s. Maybe he'll be a bit less annoying than when he was younger? We'll see.

it's worth noting that Tennant's portrayal already evolved considerably. He went from a kind of puppy dog style to brooding a lot to being a self-parody (in the 50th).

He was a self-parody by series 4.
