If you think our serial killers are bad, you should have a look at some of the American ones! Albert Fish may have killed less people, but he's the most vile person I've ever read about to the point where I never want to look him up or see his face again. I just looked him up. Good grief - Wikipedia even includes his recipe for when he ate his young victims! About the only positive was that he was executed for his crimes. They even did a film about it, 'The Gray Man', which sounds rather more tasteful than expected! |

Yup, they filmed it in Rillington Place just before the whole street was demolished. I remember talking to the guy who ran Rough Trade records in the mid 80's, joking about Rillington Place after seeing the film because the street was literally almost a stones throw parallel with their back yard, and he said, "Wait there a second", went out the the back door from the counter and brought through a labelled brick which he claimed he salvaged when the row of houses were demolished. I was speechless. Out piss-taked! In hindsight, when I look back on it now, he was making the whole thing up, but he slapped this brick on the counter and shut me right up! That would have been a hell of a momento! I think I remember Rough Trade, what happened to them? The original shop is still there off the Portobello Road, but I strongly suspect the guy behind the counter was pulling a fast one with a handy brick he had outside propping up a door or something, and a tie string label. Rough Trade didn't move there until about 7 years after Rillington Place had been flattened. It still shut me up asking him if he'd recently checked his coal shed or manhole cover to the sewers outside though. I used to go there to trade zines with them and buy the occasional tuneless racket off them. |
