Need a thread to gush about my new favourite game, Contradiction: Spot the Liar. The idea is that you - playing a quirky and memorable detective named Jenks - visit each of the suspects (in any order and as many times as you wish), question them on specific subjects and then try to find contradictions in their statements, slowly working your way to the truth about the murder... amongst other things. Paul Darrow is the game's high profile star, playing the Moriarty to Jenks's Holmes. It's his final live-action performance, and he absolutely goes out on a high. If you ever wanted to see Darrow do a pure evil Bond villain type character, this is it. Rupert Booth as Jenks holds his own, though, which is no small feat. John Guilor (who coincidentally voiced the First Doctor in Day of the Doctor) is also great as the son of Darrow's character. What makes their campiness even more enjoyable is that everyone else in the game play it 100% straight. But it's not just the atmosphere and the acting that makes Contradiction so good. The depth in this game is almost absurd. I'm still finding new things after several playthroughs. For example, someone mentions that Darrow's character hosts private parties with women in sexy nurse outfits. Way later in the game, Guilor offhandedly talks about how each semester, his dad arranges a costume party for college students. It's not relevant information to the case, but it's such excellent worldbuilding and really builds up how awful his character is.

This sounds awesome. Only thing about that product placement is..... no Blake's 7 DVDs? HA! I know Guilor's a fan though, I spoke to him on Twitter some months ago. He was quite glowing of Darrow. You can tell it from Guilor's performance too, he tries to go for a similar "I decided to play it as Richard III" vibe. The few scenes he shares with Darrow are especially funny because of this, Guilor is completely cowed in the master's presence. The game's got quite a fascinating backstory. The director/writer/producer was a video game music composer named Tim Follin who did many iconic NES themes, such as Silver Surpher and Ecco the Dolphin.
