Would you prevent World War II by any means or would you be too careful not to meddle with time?

The problem is that, as far as we know, none has travelled in time and so we don't know the rules.

Can we change nothing, will everything change, will nothing change for us but a new parallel timeline be created? So many possibilities and so many unknowns.

But let's go with the idea you can change things. How do I, a single man, stop WWII? Will blowing Hitler's brains out really put a stop to it all or might things turn out worse if a more competent leader replaces him? One man dose not a war make. Germany turned to him due to a variety of issues the country was suffering at the time. Those don't go away just because he's dead.

That kind of the biggest issue with trying to change history. We all like to think we know what's best but no one person can calculate all the outcomes that will spiral out from our actions. Yet simultaneously we like to think our action have big effects yet what we think is important may in the grander picture make little difference in the way we intended.

Also is it far to rob the people of the past of their agency just because we know the outcome. How would you feel if someone from the future meddled with your life? Or even rob you of it because of their actions.

Honestly I'd not even both changing things. I'd love to see the past, see the creatures that once walked the earth, see history as it truly was, but it's not my business to fiddle with it. My concern should be with my own life and time, not everyone else's. Besides I know I'd only make pig's ear of playing god anyway so why embarrass myself.

There's a line in the New Adventures book Exodus when the Doctor notes that changing history by taking out Hitler could actually make things worse as he could be replaced by someone less unhinged and thus more efficient.

It depends on the tragedy. If it's a personal one, then yes. If it's a big historical event that needs to happen (WWII gave us the Geneva Convention agreements), then no.

I would prevent meeting a few people from this former group wouldn't join it at all was a big regret I have but in terms of preventing other tragedies like the holocaust killing Hitler before he comes into power sadly I think time would probably just allow it to happen again. Sadly 😥 😔
