They say it's hard to separate the art from the artist when the artist is a horrible person.
Well what about cases where the art is linked to a tragic, horrible event that you find it difficult to disassociate from?
For me Starting Over a song by John Lennon that is one of my favourites, is sadly a prime example, It's such a sweet, pleasant, inspirational song, but it's marred by the fact that the day after it was released, John Lennon was shot dead! As a result the song will never have the meaning it was supposed to. Instead it's now a sad, bitter note that reminds you of how Lennon was deprived of the chance to start over with so many people he cared about, like his friends, his children etc.
Bruce Lee's final movie Enter the Dragon can also be this too, more so than other final films from actors, as Bruce was killed by the very thing that he was showing off in that movie, IE his incredible physical prowess. In the back of your head when watching it, a part of you is always thinking "he needs to slow down a bit."
The Crow meanwhile is the ultimate example as sadly Brandon Lee was killed during the making of it, and both the theme and ending are all the more poignant knowing what his family went through as a result. (Also the poor actor Michael Masse, who fired the shot, having no idea what would happen and was haunted by it for the rest of his life.)

Well one that comes to mind was a manga series I liked called Toriko. Turns out the author was a convicted for using child prostitutes or something like that. This was before the manga and to try and get back in peoples good graces he got the creator of the popular One Piece manga, who was his friend to do cross overs with Toriko.
I used to be able to look paste that but these days I can’t.
Edit: to clarify I only found out after I’d read the whole series. By then I was invested and thought it was horrible but as I say I enjoyed the work. Over time that fact has eroded my enthusiasm to the point I haven’t read it in years.

On a similar note I’ll never watch the Jeepers Creepers movies again as the movies director is also a phedophile. Not that the films are that good in hindsight anyway.
In a more sad note, the auther of one of the best manga series ever, Berserk pass away leaving his work unfinished. It is being continued but I think this is more about money then art. Many manga creators have died and their works left unfinished but berserk gets special treatment?

A lot of Joy Division's work is quite sad because lead singer Ian Curtis was a tortured soul and you can really feel that when you listen to some of their stuff. He sadly killed himself.
"Mother, I tried, please believe me. I'm doing the best that I can. I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through. I'm ashamed of the person I am" I do prefer New Order to Joy Division, but Ian Curtis was a great songwriter all the same.

Some of the greatest ancient works are unfinished/fragmentary, and often it actually adds to the effect of the text. This same thing happened with that Wheel of Time fantasy series; the author passed away and they immediately got someone else in to finish it. It feels cheap and sort of scummy.

This same thing happened with that Wheel of Time fantasy series; the author passed away and they immediately got someone else in to finish it. It feels cheap and sort of scummy. The worst example of this is Game of Death. Basically Bruce Lee shot about 3 or so fight scenes before his untimely death. Wanting to cash in on the success of Enter the Dragon, Robert Clouse took those scenes and built an entire movie around it, using stand ins for Lee, shot from behind, and stock footage for close up shots. It's notoriously terrible and pointless. To start with the stock footage is obvious as often the backgrounds don't match. (Bruce's haircut also changes dramatically too.) Also the doubles are often very badly shot, with lingering close ups of their faces. Take a look at this fight scene. I can only conclude that the director was like Peter Griffin in Family Guy, IE thinking China men all look alike. Worst of all though is that one scene actually features Bruce Lee's rotting and embalmed corpse! The plot sees Lee's character fake his death and the footage they use for his fake funeral, is Bruce Lee's real funeral, complete with a close up of his open casket! To top it all off however, the plot for the finished version isn't even the same plot as the original Lee movie. In fact the new plot they came up with meant that they had to junk about 70 percent of the finished footage anyway! Lee shot about half an hours worth of material, but the finished film only has about 11 mins. In the end Bruce's footage would just be released as a special feature on one of his other movies and is now available on youtube LOL. They could have just done that in the first place and spared us this pointless, exploitative, tacky film.

I get the idea people wish for but it’s just never going to be the same. Even with notes and insight from the creator, the final product will never be how they would have crafted it in the end. It’s just some interpretation. Better to just tell people what might have been and let fans imaginations do the rest. An example I really like was the Getter Robo Arc anime. Arc was the 5th and final series in the Getter Robo manga franchise. Getter Robo being a founding part of the Mecha genre and the first combining robot. Sadly the author died before finishing and out of respect none has tried to finish it, not even the man’s best friend and Getter Robo’s co-creator Go Nagai. He helped his friend design it but never wrote for the manga series. While the anime dose makes some narrative changes, it respect the unfinished nature of the work. The plot ends as the manga ends, with just an original epilogue to round the ending off more effectively.

This song will forever be synonymous with Charles Manson and his cult for me. Cracking song, though.

Please Please Me is my favourite Beatles album (a couple of songs from that appear in Remembrance of the Daleks) though I enjoy most of their work. They seem to be hated by a few here for some reason.

Professional Wrestling is performance art, and for many, nothing will eclipse the storytelling of Wrestlemania XX, which climaxed in Chris Benoit winning the World Heavyweight Championship and celebrating with Eddie Guerrero. One year later, Eddie would pass away still in his 30s and Benoit would go on commit a double murder/suicide on his entire family two years later, guaranteeing that Wrestlemania main event and it's outcome would never be aired again.
