Tom was a bit all over the place. He has a great run with Sarah Jane, but then his likability dips with Leela (as the actor becomes more egotistical, and Jameson plays Leela as mentally more vulnerable than Sarah). The Romana period has a fun comic tone, but Tom remains a bit distant and overbearing in his performance. But then in season 18 when he gets exhausted and stops prancing about, his gravitas shoots up to its peak.

Yeah, completely the opposite of my opinion.
Tom's alright with Sarah but to me he doesn't come into his own till she buggers off. The Williams era is clearly his peak, and bar Meglos and Decay he's clearly bored shitless waiting to get the f**k away from Bidmead and JNT throughout 18.
While I love and adore 17, 16 I think is my fave, if not my favourite of the entire show. All six stories are enormous fun.
