Having looked back at this era recently, it's interesting to note how much of it actually holds up. Apart from Timelash which, to be honest, still isn't as bad as the likes of Fear Her and The Idiot's Latern, his first season is rather good. Trial isn't great but there's some positives to take away from it. Twin Dilemma- Revelation is pretty solid in my book. Colin isn't my favourite Doctor but he wasn't miscast in the role and has a bit more Doctorness about him than Davison. And do you know that I love Nicola Bryant? Well, you do now

Colin was an excellent Doctor all around. I do like his first season. It's honestly no worse than Tom's first season.
Hell it's probably better to be honest, though Genesis is better than anything in Colin's first season to be fair, as a whole it probably has more good adventures than poor ones.
I think that Timelash is the absolute pits though of the classic era. It's honestly as bad as some of the worst pre Capaldi era New Who. Trial meanwhile is an absolute slog to get through. He suffers from having too short an era and one season taken up with crap.

I like Genesis and Revenge, though.

I like Genesis and Revenge, though. Glad you finally came round to Genesis. I agree that 12 is a bit overrated. Robot is utter crap, and Ark in Space is a good story, in that it's a good idea, but I think considering it takes itself so seriously the production values in this instance do let it down. I quite like the Sontaran Experiment meanwhile, but honestly if I was comparing the two series in terms of classics I'd say it goes like this. Revelation and Vengeance on Varos are two standout classics. Mark of the Rani, Two Doctors and Attack are above average. Timelash is utter shit. For season 12 meanwhile. Genesis of the Daleks is a standout classic, Revenge is average, Sontaran Experiment is above average, Ark in Space is flawed, but a good story. Overall I'd say that it's probably above average, whilst Robot is shit. So yeah season 22 actually has more stand outs and above averages for me. Really I think 12 gets a pass because it led to a very successful era, where as 22 was the first one before it was cancelled. It's interesting to think though had a spanner not been thrown in the works, maybe there would have been a celebrated and gritty colin baker era.

I watched it over the weekend and had fun with it. Not one of my favourite Baker stories, but an engaging watch all the same. Revenge is actually my favourite story of that season although that's probably because I love the Cybermen so much. I'd say Two Doctors is above average myself. I wouldn't call one of Holmes's best, but it's actually quite funny. It's sad that Troughton is out of action for most of it.

22 is great. Trial sucks. It's a deep shame we didn't just get the original 23, and it makes the era a bit schizo.

I'm more of a season 23 guy than a season 22 one. I think the Trial idea is neat (especially when Holmes is writing), it feels refreshing during a period that was really getting stale for me, and Jayston has great chemistry with Colin.

There's some ambitious ideas in Trial certainly. To be honest, I actually like the Matrix scenes more in Ultimate Foe than in the Deadly Assassin. The pottery museum they filmed at looks very Victorian. Unfortunately Mindwarp is one of the messiest stories ever made and The Mysterious Planet, whilst very funny, is as plain as they come. I was very disappointed the first time I watched it all. It's my least favourite Classic Season although it still shits on half of NuWho seasons.

I probably prefer Series 3 to Season 22, but apart from that I'd rate Season 22 above every modern series.
