It's impressive to know that only the first part had scenes filmed on location. The rest of it was shot in the studio. Bit like Earthshock in that respect.

Does anyone know why the escape attempt at the end of part two was shot on film instead of videotape?

They had to use a certain amount of film per serial. Given the lack of location filming, it becomes the director's choice.
