I'm going to give it a 9/10. I do think there are better 80s stories, but it's definitely a highlight of the decade and also of the show as a whole.

Objectively, I'd give it an 10 and say I agree with it being the best of the Davison era. The story, direction, performances and production values are unmatched. Yet at the same time, I'd subjectively say I prefer Earthshock, Enlightenment, Five Doctors and Black Orchid to it.
That and I've noticed an tendency for people recommending the classic series to others to choose this for the Davison era and whilst what I said about it objectively stands up, it's arguably an bizarre choice considering his death at the end and there are many other accessible stories like the four aforementioned above.

8 or 9. It is a bit overrated, and you do have to be in the right mood for its doom and gloom, but it is excellent.

I'm gonna be slightly controversial and say 7 out of 10. It's a perfectly respectable story, but I've never been able to connect with it emotionally.
